BBQ Baked Beans

Potluck gold. People ask for the recipe every time. It's basically three kinds of beans with bratwurst instead of ground beef - that's the game changer.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp barbecue sauce
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 lbs bratwurst casings removed
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 2 28-ounce cans baked beans
  • 2 15-ounce cans pinto beans, drained
  • 2 15-ounce cans black beans, drained
  • 1 10-ounce can Ro-Tel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, drained
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

  • Whisk together barbecue sauce, ketchup, water, mustard, vinegar, liquid smoke, garlic, and cayenne in large bowl.
  • Brown bratwurst (casings removed) in skillet over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, breaking up meat.
  • Add onions, cook 15 minutes until meat and onions are well browned.
  • Mix browned meat mixture with sauce, all beans, and drained tomatoes.
  • Transfer to 13x9 metal pan on rimmed baking sheet.
  • Top with bacon pieces.
  • Bake at 350F for 1.5 hours until bubbling and bacon is rendered.
  • Rest 15 minutes before serving.
