Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

The cookies people pretend to hate until the plate's empty. Fresh nutmeg makes these taste like something your grandma would hide from the kids.

Ingredients

  • 16 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 sticks, softened
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350F with racks in lower and middle positions.
  • Beat softened butter until creamy.
  • Add brown and granulated sugars, beat 3 minutes until fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time.
  • Whisk flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg in separate bowl.
  • Mix dry ingredients into butter mixture on low until just combined.
  • Fold in oats and raisins.
  • Form into 2-inch balls, place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  • Bake 22-25 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through.
  • Cool completely on wire racks.
